Former Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has suspended plans to establish an independent Hisbah organisation in Kano State following consultations with stakeholders and security agencies.
The decision was reached after a stakeholders’ consultative meeting involving representatives from the 44 local government areas of the state, APC stakeholders and the Department of State Services (DSS), held on Tuesday in Kano.
A statement signed by Alhaji Baffa Babba Dan Agundi, on behalf of Ganduje, confirmed that the proposal had been withdrawn in the interest of peace and stability.
“The attempt to establish an independent Hisbah group in Kano State has been withdrawn and suspended,” the statement said.
According to the statement, the move followed widespread public outcry over the proposal, as well as interventions by key stakeholders, including the Kano State Government and security agencies, aimed at preventing tension and maintaining public order.
The meeting resolved to suspend the planned establishment of the Independent Hisbah Fisabilillah, allowing the Kano State Government to address a series of allegations currently facing the Kano State Hisbah Commission.
Stakeholders at the meeting also reaffirmed the need to respect constituted authority, stressing the importance of cooperation with security agencies to ensure law and order across the state.
The statement added that all parties agreed to work collectively to safeguard peace, security and stability in Kano State and Nigeria at large.
