Coach of the Gabon national team, Thierry Mouyouma, has declared that his side is ready to face Nigeria in the FIFA World Cup qualifying playoffs.
Both nations will battle in one of the playoff fixtures scheduled to take place in Morocco, with the winner set to face either DR Congo or Cameroon in the next round.
Nigeria booked their playoff spot after a dominant 4-0 victory over Benin Republic at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, on Tuesday.
Gabon, meanwhile, impressed in their campaign — finishing with 25 points from eight wins, one draw, and one defeat. Despite their strong run, they missed out on automatic qualification.
Nigeria secured their playoff berth with 17 points, thanks to a late goal from Frank Onyeka.
“To get 25 points and not qualify is hard to take. We are ready. It will be a good match to play against Nigeria and a good test for the 2025 AFCON,” Mouyouma told reporters.
The African playoffs for the four best second-placed teams are scheduled to hold from 13 to 16 November in Morocco.
