Award-winning actress and producer Funke Akindele has set a new box office record with her latest film, Behind The Scenes, which has emerged as the highest-grossing Nollywood movie of 2025 after crossing the ₦500 million mark within one week of release.
The milestone further reinforces Akindele’s reputation as one of Nollywood’s most bankable filmmakers, following a string of commercially successful cinema releases in recent years.
According to the film’s distributor, FilmOne Entertainment, Behind The Scenes broke five opening-weekend records, making it the first Nollywood title in 2025 to achieve such a feat. The company confirmed that the film’s earnings climbed to ₦512 million, also making it the fastest Nollywood movie this year to reach the ₦500 million benchmark.
In a celebratory message shared online, the production team thanked audiences across West Africa for turning out in large numbers, describing the achievement as a testament to belief, consistency, and audience loyalty. The post highlighted the film’s status as the top-grossing title of the year so far and the number-one movie of the weekend.
Momentum for the film began building early, following advanced screenings held on December 10 and 11. The early showings generated strong word-of-mouth ahead of its nationwide cinema release on December 12, contributing to its rapid box office climb.
Behind The Scenes features an ensemble cast that includes Scarlet Gomez, Iyabo Ojo, Destiny Etiko, Tobi Bakre and Uche Montana, among others, drawing fans from across different segments of the movie-going audience.
The latest success adds to Akindele’s impressive box office history. Her previous release, Everybody Loves Jenifa, recorded Nollywood’s biggest opening weekend ever, surpassing the earlier record set by A Tribe Called Judah. Everybody Loves Jenifa later went on to become the highest-grossing Nollywood film of all time, earning over ₦1.8 billion in Nigeria, alongside additional revenue from international markets.
With Behind The Scenes continuing its strong cinema run, industry watchers expect the film to further consolidate Akindele’s dominance at the Nigerian box office in 2025.
