Filmmaker and actress Funke Akindele has celebrated the remarkable success of her latest film, Behind The Scenes, following a record-breaking opening weekend in Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
The movie, which premiered on December 12, grossed over ₦200 million in Nigerian cinemas within its opening weekend. In the UK and Ireland, the film earned £42,000, marking the biggest opening weekend for a Nollywood title in the region.
Reacting to the milestone, Akindele took to social media to express gratitude to fans, describing the performance as the biggest box office opening of 2025 so far.
“We’re showing up and not giving up! Big ups, Naija!” she wrote, thanking Nigerian audiences for turning out in large numbers to support the film. She described the achievement as another major win for Nollywood.
The filmmaker also acknowledged audiences in the UK and Ireland, crediting their support for setting a new record for Nollywood releases abroad.
“A massive shoutout to our UK and Ireland fans. You guys made it the biggest Nollywood opening weekend ever,” she added.
Behind The Scenes, which continues to screen in cinemas across Nigeria and selected Odeon cinemas in the UK and Ireland, has also received positive reviews from viewers, further boosting its momentum at the box office.
