Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has appealed to fans in the United Kingdom to refrain from sharing clips of her latest movie, Behind the Scenes, online.
The film premiered on December 4 at Odeon Cinemas in Greenwich, generating widespread excitement among audiences. Following the premiere, Akindele expressed concern that unauthorized postings could negatively impact ticket sales ahead of the Nigerian release on December 12.
In a video message, the actress asked her fans to respect the effort and investment behind the project.
“UK fans that have watched Behind the Scenes, please stop posting online, you’re not helping or promoting. Please don’t record; we spent over a billion on that project. Don’t let me run into debt, please stop posting the recordings, it is piracy,” she urged.
The film, directed by Funke Akindele and produced with significant investment, has received positive attention, and fans have largely echoed her message, promising to wait for the official release before sharing content online.
This call highlights ongoing concerns in Nollywood about piracy and the impact of unauthorized sharing on revenue and the sustainability of high-budget film projects.
