Popular actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has called on Nigerian film practitioners to support one another, highlighting the importance of collaboration over rivalry in Nollywood.
Akindele made the remarks at the premiere of Love and New Notes, starring Timini Egbuson, addressing guests and cast members after the screening.
“We all need to come out to support Nollywood. We are all one. There’s no competition, it’s called collaboration. As long as you put in the hard work and dedication, you will all reach the top,” she said.
She also praised the production quality of the film, commending the creative direction, cinematography, costumes, lighting, and performances. “Congratulations Timini and Kayode (Kasum). This is the second time I am attending your movie premiere and it’s better. I love the shots, storytelling, costumes, lighting and acting,” she added.
Special recognition was given to fellow actors for their versatility. Akindele highlighted Eniola Badmus for stepping beyond her comedic reputation and delivering strong dramatic performances, and praised Odunlade Adekola for showcasing depth in his roles.
Through her remarks, Funke Akindele reinforced the message that Nollywood’s growth depends on unity, mutual support, and recognition of talent across the industry.
