Award-winning filmmaker and actress Funke Akindele has revealed that her upcoming December release, Behind The Scenes, was guided by divine instruction.
Speaking at the FilmOne end-of-year exhibitor showcase, Akindele explained that she had initially intended to produce a sequel to her blockbuster film A Tribe Called Judah. However, repeated spiritual guidance led her to set aside the project and focus on a new story.
“We weren’t supposed to release Behind The Scenes. I actually wanted to release A Tribe Called Judah 2. We’d even started rehearsals and negotiations, but the Spirit of God kept telling me, ‘No, you will not shoot that film,’” Akindele said.
She added that despite exploring four other scripts and potential collaborations, she felt divinely directed to create Behind The Scenes. “The idea came from one scene, and I said, ‘This is relatable.’ Many people will see their own experiences reflected in the story,” she noted.
Produced under the Funke Akindele Network, the film is set to premiere nationwide on December 12, 2025. It promises to highlight struggles and realities often hidden from the public eye, offering a narrative that resonates beyond surface glamour.
The movie features a star-studded cast including Tobi Bakre, Veeiye, Uzor Arukwe, Uche Montana, Ini Dima-Okojie, and Ibrahim Chatta, among others.
Akindele’s decision continues her tradition of releasing films in December, a strategy that previously yielded box office hits like A Tribe Called Judah and Everybody Loves Jenifa, solidifying her as one of Nollywood’s top-grossing directors.
