
Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day on Wednesday sparked an outpouring of patriotic messages from prominent entertainers who joined citizens in celebrating the milestone.
Actress Funke Akindele described Nigeria as her “pride” while urging the public to remain hopeful and prayerful for the country’s progress.
“Happy 65th Independence Day, Nigeria! My country, my pride! Despite our diversity, let’s continue to preach love, believe in ourselves, and pray for our nation’s growth,” she wrote on Instagram.
Regina Daniels posted a video of herself singing the national anthem and asked pointedly, “Can someone tell me what changed? Abi everything is still the same?”
From the United States, actress Eniola Badmus shared a clip at the Nigerian Embassy, reflecting that the “spirit of Nigeria remains ever present” whether at home or abroad.
Tonto Dikeh also marked the occasion with a message of hope: “Let’s keep building, believing and becoming together. A brighter Nigeria isn’t a dream, it is a future we are creating step by step.”
May Edochie celebrated Nigeria’s cultural heritage in her post, writing: “From our rich culture to our boundless dreams. Let’s make Nigeria more than a country but a home.”
Veteran actor Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD) expressed his unwavering attachment to the country. “I love Nigeria, and this no be lie. For better for worse, na so e be,” he wrote.
Similarly, disc jockey Florence Otedola, better known as DJ Cuppy, declared her enduring pride in her roots, saying she would still choose to be Nigerian “in her next world.”
October 1 remains a symbolic day for Nigerians at home and in the diaspora, as the nation commemorates its independence from colonial rule in 1960.
