Actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has used her platform to raise awareness about lupus following a recent meet-and-greet with individuals living with the condition in Abeokuta.
The event, organised in conjunction with Lureg Support as part of her Behind The Scenes promotional activities, offered Akindele an opportunity to connect with the community and hear firsthand about their experiences.
Reflecting on the visit, Akindele described the encounter as deeply moving. She stressed the importance of empathy and understanding, noting that lupus is a medical condition, not contagious, and should never be a reason for stigma or isolation.
“My trip to Abeokuta for Behind The Scenes meet-and-greet was so much fun, I was surrounded by hugs, smiles, and gratitude that touched my heart deeply,” she shared. “Meeting people living with lupus who felt seen through Behind The Scenes reminded me why stories rooted in empathy, self-care, and self-love truly matter.”
Akindele encouraged those living with lupus to know they are not alone and reiterated her commitment to spotlighting valuable causes through her work. She wrote, “Lupus is not contagious. It is a medical condition, not a label and never a reason to hide. To everyone living with it, you are not alone. My purpose is to keep shining light on valuable causes and the people whose stories deserve to be heard.”
The actress expressed gratitude to Lureg Support for facilitating the meeting, highlighting the importance of collaboration in raising awareness and recognition for communities often overlooked.
Through the initiative, Akindele continues to demonstrate how entertainment and advocacy can intersect, using storytelling and public engagement to foster understanding and social impact.
