Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, says investments in roads and community projects are laying the groundwork for stronger political engagement in the state.
The governor made the remarks on Tuesday while inaugurating the Ihuowo-Ihuama Road and Ring Roads, constructed by his administration in Ahoada-East. He said that by delivering tangible results, it would be easier to convince residents to support initiatives, including backing President Bola Tinubu.
Addressing residents, Fubara said, “Why are we doing all these things? We are doing it so that when we come to you and talk about supporting Mr. President, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, it won’t be a difficult message. Our people will see the work we have done and understand the commitment we bring”.
The governor explained that the projects were initiated in response to public outcry over the dangerous condition of the roads, which he described as a “death trap”. He recalled that the Ihuowo-Ihuama corridor had been plagued by kidnappings and had caused multiple deaths of pregnant women trying to access medical care.
“This corridor was a major route exploited by criminals, but with the work we have done, it will no longer serve them”, Fubara said. “We are simply listening to the needs of our people and acting on them as a government.”
He also praised the contractor for efficiently utilizing government funds and noted that the project helped restore the contractor’s previously damaged reputation.
Fubara vowed to continue providing services that meet the needs of the people and leave lasting legacies. He expressed gratitude to Sir Ngozi Abi, acknowledging him as a mentor who laid the foundation for his current achievements.
