Reinstated Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, on Monday declared that he has made peace with his predecessor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
He also stressed for emphasis that the two of them are now working together for the development of the oil-rich state.
Speaking with newsmen after meeting behind closed-doors with President Bola Tinubu at the State House, Abuja, Fubara stressed that he and his principal, have agreed to forge ahead for the unity of Rivers State.
Asked if the peace accord between them was real or peace on paper, the Rivers Governor said “I don’t know what you mean by if this is a paper peace.
“As far as I’m concerned, we have made peace. Fubara and his principal are working together.”
On what prompted his visit to President Tinubu, Fubara stated that he was at the seat of government to brief the President that he was back from suspension and had since last week resumed office.
He added that the President also used the forum to guide him on how to go about governance again in the state without crisis.
His words: “You’re aware that suspension was lifted midnight September, and I came in on the 19th. Ideally, it’s proper for me to see Mr. President and to tell him that I’m back, and I’ve also resumed my responsibility as the Governor of Rivers State. It’s not much. It’s father-son discussion, telling him thank you and and the areas where, if at all, there should be any issue for him to guide me properly so we don’t be in any situation of crisis. That’s all.
Asked what specifically President Tinubu told him, the Rivers Governor said he guided him right on how to go about things in the state.
Said he: “What he said to me? He advised me on what to do and how to go about it in the right direction.”
President Tinubu had on Wednesday, September 17, 2025 announced an end to the six-month emergency rule declared on March 18, 2025, which ended the tenure of ex-naval chief, Vice-Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), as Rivers State sole administrator.
The President, in a statement on the cessation of the state of emergency in Rivers State, directed Governor Siminalayi Fubara, the deputy governor, Ngozi Nma Odu, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly and the speaker, Martins Amaewhule, to resume work in their offices from 18th September 2025.
He commended the renewed spirit of unity and the collective commitment of all stakeholders in Rivers State to restore democratic governance.
President Tinubu emphasised that peace, order, and effective leadership are fundamental pillars for delivering meaningful governance to the people.
The President urged the executive and legislative arms in Rivers State to consistently choose the realisation of this understanding to guide their actions.
