Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has extended warm felicitations to mothers across the state in celebration of Mothering Sunday, describing their dedication to family building and community development as the bedrock of a stable society.
In a goodwill message marking the occasion, Governor Fubara paid glowing tribute to women, commending their strength, resilience, and unwavering commitment to raising children who will become the nation’s future leaders.
The message, contained in a statement issued on Sunday in Port Harcourt by his Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, highlighted the invaluable role mothers play in sustaining homes and shaping the moral fabric of society.
“On behalf of the government and people of Rivers State, I warmly felicitate all mothers on the occasion of Mothering Sunday,” the governor said.
“We celebrate the selfless love, care, and sacrifices of mothers across our dear state. Your tireless efforts in nurturing families, instilling values, and strengthening communities remain the backbone of our society.”
Governor Fubara further acknowledged that motherhood represents a profound commitment marked by daily sacrifice, compassion, and enduring devotion, qualities he noted are essential for building a better future.
Mothering Sunday, widely observed in Nigeria on the fourth Sunday of Lent—particularly in churches within the Anglican Communion—is a religious and social celebration dedicated to honouring mothers and maternal figures.
The occasion is traditionally marked by special church services, family gatherings, presentation of gifts, and public recognition of the immense contributions of mothers to both family life and national development.
