The #FreeNnamdiKanu protest led by activist Omoyele Sowore took place on Monday, bringing activities to a near standstill in parts of Abuja and the South East, where residents opted to stay off the streets in solidarity with the demonstrations. The protest coincided with the fifth anniversary of EndSARS.
It came as President Tinubu’s Special Adviser, Bayo Onanuga, criticized Aloy Ejimakor, who is one of Kanu’s lawyers for joining what Onanuga called a shambolic protest.
Speaking on Arise News Prime Time, Sowore defended Ejimakor’s right to peaceful protest, promising that even Senior Advocates of Nigeria would join the protest if Kanu is not released.
Meanwhile at the Lekki Toll Gate, the Executive Director of Enough Is Enough, Yemi Adamolekun, was assaulted by security officers while attempting to lay a bouquet of flowers at the site as a symbolic act of remembrance. The officers’ actions sparked widespread condemnation of the restriction of freedom of expression.
In Cross River State, the Ministry of Justice intervened in the stalled 2023 murder prosecution of two suspects connected to the killing of youth pastor Princewill Ikenna, who was shot for his Lexus car.
As a result, the Attorney-General has instructed the Director of Public Prosecutions to take over the case to restore public confidence.
In Lagos, the parents of Azenabor “Osas” Omoegbe are speaking out after his November 2024 arrest at Mile 12, stating that they cannot establish his whereabouts or whether he is in police custody, despite publishing the case in national newspapers.
In other news, the Nollywood actress Sarah Martins publicly thanked Seyi Tinubu and The Noella Foundation for an alleged ₦20 million gift to secure a legal space for her cooking charity.
However, Seyi Tinubu quickly clarified that the funds were raised by a group of his friends and stressed that he does not support any actions that violate Lagos State laws.
Finally, the nation and President Tinubu celebrated former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, GCFR, on his 91st birthday.
President Tinubu honored the elder statesman, acknowledging his enduring contributions to Nigeria’s unity, particularly his “No Victor, No Vanquished” policy following the Civil War.
