A Skypower Express charter plane crash-landed at Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport in Owerri on Tuesday night, with all four passengers and crew surviving the incident.
The Cessna 172, registered as 5N-ASR, went down around 8:00 pm local time on December 16 while approaching Runway 17. Authorities said the aircraft had been en route from Kaduna International Airport to Port Harcourt International Airport when the pilot declared an emergency and diverted to Owerri.
The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) confirmed the emergency landing and said an investigation into the circumstances has begun.
The Nigeria Police Force, Airport Command, also confirmed the incident, reporting that their officers received a distress call shortly before the crash. According to the police, the aircraft sustained varying degrees of damage upon landing at the runway threshold.
Officials have stressed that no injuries were reported and that emergency response teams promptly attended to the passengers and crew.
