Russian forces launched an overnight drone attack on Ukraine’s Odesa region, damaging residential buildings and critical infrastructure and injuring four people, including three children, regional authorities reported Wednesday.
Odesa, a strategic Black Sea port, has been repeatedly targeted by Russian missiles and drones during nearly four years of war, with attacks frequently hitting energy facilities, transport hubs, port infrastructure, and residential areas.
“Strike drones attacked residential, logistics, and energy infrastructure in our region,” said Oleh Kiper, governor of Odesa region, via the Telegram messaging app.
In Odesa city, the regional administrative centre, the injured include a seven-month-old infant, two other children, and a 42-year-old man, Serhiy Lisak, head of the city’s military administration, confirmed on Telegram.
Lisak reported that debris from the drones and direct impacts damaged the facades and windows of multiple high-rise apartment buildings. Images posted by Lisak showed smoke rising from a multi-storey building at night, flames visible in several windows, and firefighters directing water jets at the affected facades.
