Former Senator representing Osun West Senatorial District and ex-member of the House of Representatives, Mudashiru Husain, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2026 Osun governorship election, promising to end Governor Ademola Adeleke’s tenure.
Husain, who also served as a National Commissioner for Population and Housing Census, made the declaration on Tuesday at the All Progressives Congress (APC) State Secretariat in Osogbo, before party leaders led by APC Chairman Tajudeen Sooko Lawal.
Speaking with confidence, Husain described himself as the “most politically grounded” among the aspirants, citing his experience at both legislative chambers and his strong political structures across the state.
“It is the turn of Ejigbo to produce the next governor of Osun State,” Husain declared. “I have the experience, the structures, and the people. With fairness and inclusivity, I am ready to serve and deliver victory for our party.”
The former lawmaker, who likened himself to a “major general” in the race, urged APC stakeholders to support his ambition for the collective good of Osun State.
In his remarks, APC Chairman Tajudeen Sooko Lawal called for unity among aspirants, stressing that the party’s strength lies in solidarity.
“With God’s grace, APC will take over Osun in 2026. Whoever emerges as our candidate must be supported wholeheartedly, because all our aspirants are more capable and better prepared than Governor Ademola Adeleke,” Lawal said.
The declaration sets the stage for what promises to be a fierce governorship battle in Osun, as the APC intensifies efforts to reclaim power from the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
