Former Senate President Adolphus Wabara has declared his support for the campaign seeking the release of detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu, lending his voice to growing calls for justice.
In a solidarity message personally signed and addressed to Omoyele Sowore, human rights activist and 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Wabara expressed his “full support” for the nationwide campaign initiated by Sowore to demand Kanu’s freedom.
The letter, dated October 13 and shared by Sowore on his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Wednesday, revealed that Wabara is currently out of the country for medical reasons, but said he would have joined the October 20 solidarity march if he were in Nigeria.
“I would have loved to physically participate in the march if not for my medical trip abroad,” Wabara wrote. “I commend your courage and that of everyone standing up against injustice.”
Wabara, who also serves as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), praised Sowore and other organisers of the march for their commitment to justice and human rights, urging Nigerians to support peaceful efforts aimed at upholding the rule of law.
The endorsement by the former Senate President adds political weight to the campaign for Kanu’s release, which has continued to attract support from civil rights groups, opposition figures, and international observers.
