The family of former President Shehu Shagari has announced the passing of his last surviving wife, Hajiya Saratu Shehu Shagari. She died on Monday at the age of 89 after a prolonged illness.
In a statement signed by Captain Mohammed Bala Shagari, the eldest son of the late president, the family confirmed that Hajiya Saratu passed away at approximately 3 p.m.
He described her as “an embodiment of grace, humility, and quiet strength,” noting that she lived a life marked by dignity, compassion, and unwavering service.
The family added that details of her funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course.
