Former President of the Nigerian Bar Association and 2024 Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in Edo State, Olumide Akpata, has firmly dismissed reports claiming he is set to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement issued Tuesday, Akpata described the speculation as a “malicious, mischievous, and utterly false rumour” fabricated on social media and amplified by political mischief-makers.
“The suggestion that I have abandoned the Labour Party — the very platform on which I contested the 2024 Edo State gubernatorial election — to join the APC is not only false but laughable,” Akpata said.
He stressed that he has never contemplated, discussed, or initiated any move to switch parties, adding emphatically: “For the avoidance of doubt, I have no intention of ever joining the APC.”
