Nasiru Gawuna, a former All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate in Kano State during the 2023 elections, has formally resigned from the ruling party, signaling a major political development in the state.
In a resignation letter dated March 29, 2026, and addressed to the APC chairman of Gawuna Ward, Nassarawa Local Government Area, Gawuna described his departure as “voluntary and personal.”
“I hereby formally resign my membership from the All Progressives Congress (APC), effective March 29, 2026,” the letter read in part.
The former deputy governor expressed appreciation to the party for the opportunities he enjoyed during his tenure as a member.
“I remain grateful to the party for the trust and platform it provided me to serve the people,” he stated.
Gawuna did not indicate his next political move, sparking speculation about his future alignment amid ongoing political shifts in Kano State. Analysts suggest his resignation could have significant implications as key political actors continue repositioning ahead of upcoming elections.
Sources close to Gawuna disclosed that he is expected to meet with former Rabiu Kwankwaso on Monday night at the latter’s residence on Miller Road, a move likely to fuel further speculation about potential alliances.
Gawuna’s departure adds to the growing trend of political realignments in Kano, highlighting the fluid nature of party affiliations ahead of Nigeria’s next electoral cycle.
