Former Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has confirmed that he was summoned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), affirming his readiness to cooperate fully with the agency.
In a statement personally signed and shared on X on Friday, Malami emphasized his commitment as a law-abiding and patriotic citizen to honour the invitation.
“This is to confirm that I have been invited by the EFCC. As a law-abiding and patriotic citizen, I hereby reaffirm my commitment to honour the invitation,” he wrote.
He stressed that his actions over the years have been guided by the principles of openness, accountability, and responsible governance, values he has long championed in public service.
“I understand the spirit of accountability and transparency in public service—the principles that I both advocate and uphold,” Malami said.
The former minister revealed that he had informed his family and friends about the EFCC summons. He explained that the commission requested clarification on certain matters, and he was prepared to provide it.
“I am informing my family and friends that the EFCC has invited me to clarify some issues, and as a citizen of law and order, I am willing to honour this invitation without hesitation,” he stated.
Malami also underscored that honesty and integrity have always guided his leadership and decision-making throughout his tenure in government.
“I believe in the importance of honesty and integrity in leadership. These are principles I have long upheld during my years of public service,” he added.
He assured Nigerians that he would keep them updated as events unfold, stressing the importance of transparency in matters of public interest.
“On this note, I am informing Nigerians of any developments that will follow, so that everyone remains aware,” he said.
While the EFCC had not disclosed the full scope of its inquiry at the time of his statement, Malami provided an update on Saturday, confirming that he had honoured the summons and been released, with a new date for further engagement set.
“In line with my commitment to keep Nigerians informed regarding my EFCC invitation, I give glory to Allah for His divine intervention.
The engagement was successful, and I have been released, with a follow-up appointment scheduled as the truth surrounding the fabricated allegations against me continues to unfold,” he stated.
