To strengthen Nigeria’s response to modern security threats, the Foreign Affairs Ministry and the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) have launched initiatives to enhance strategic communication and inter-agency collaboration.
The development followed a familiarisation and synergy visit by the Ministry’s Spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, to the Director of Public Relations and Information at the Air Force Headquarters in Abuja, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame. The meeting focused on aligning diplomatic messaging with military public information to strengthen national security, protect civilians, and maintain public trust.
Ejodame highlighted the challenges posed by asymmetric and guerrilla-style threats, where hostile elements often operate among civilians, making careful information management essential for operational security and personnel safety.
On his part, Ebienfa stressed the need for coordinated, evidence-based communication, especially in matters involving foreign partners or sensitive operations. He noted that gaps in inter-agency communication could fuel speculation, misinformation, or diplomatic tension, underlining the importance of structured communication frameworks and early consultation.
Both officials agreed that information warfare is now a key component of modern security, requiring a balance between transparency and operational confidentiality.
They also discussed the risks of misinterpreted foreign military cooperation and narratives that could deepen social divisions or encourage radicalization.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to joint capacity-building initiatives, including media simulations and regular spokesperson engagements. Officials reaffirmed that Nigeria’s national interest remains paramount and coordinated strategic communication is essential to protecting sovereignty, maintaining public trust, and enhancing Nigeria’s global standing.
