Ford Motor Co. is recalling more than 115,000 vehicles in the United States after regulators identified a defect that could cause the steering column’s upper shaft to detach, raising the risk of a loss of steering control.
According to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall affects certain F-250, F-350, and F-450 models from the 2020 and 2021 model years. The safety agency warned that the defect poses a significant hazard, as loss of steering control could increase the likelihood of crashes.
Ford has instructed its dealers to inspect the vehicles and repair or replace the faulty component at no cost to owners. The automaker said it would notify affected customers directly with further details on scheduling the necessary service.
