Foluke Adeboye, wife of Enoch Adeboye, has recounted a personal sacrifice she made after becoming a born-again Christian, giving up and discarding her gold jewelry.
Speaking during an interview, she explained that although she once had a strong interest in fashion, her priorities shifted after joining the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), where wearing earrings was discouraged at the time.
According to her, the change in belief prompted her to dispose of all her jewelry, including pieces she had set aside for her child. She said she threw them into a lagoon, viewing the items as no longer consistent with her faith.
Adeboye noted that her decision drew questions from those around her, including a family acquaintance who suggested she could have given the valuables to her mother to sell instead of discarding them.
However, she maintained that her actions were guided by conviction, adding that she believed anything she considered unsuitable for herself would also be inappropriate for her loved ones.
Reflecting on the experience, she said she has no regrets about the choice and does not feel she lost anything significant by letting go of the items.
Her remarks offer insight into the strict religious practices observed by some early members of the RCCG and the personal sacrifices adherents were willing to make in alignment with their beliefs.
