Fast-rising music star Fola has issued a public apology following his first-ever headline concert, which was cut short amid widespread criticism over crowd control and safety concerns.
The concert, held on December 15 at the Balmoral Event Center, reportedly exceeded the venue’s capacity, leading to rowdy scenes and safety breaches. The situation escalated to the point where Fola stopped the performance to prevent further risk to attendees.
In a statement shared after the incident, the singer expressed regret, admitting that fan safety should have been the foremost priority.
“My people, I’m really sorry about how last night went,” Fola said. “People were hurt, and that should never happen. I had to stop the show because safety comes before anything else. I hear you on all fronts, and we’re working to make things right.”
His record label, Dagbana Republik, also released a statement acknowledging shortcomings in safety arrangements at the event, which was organised by Mainland Blockparty.
The label admitted that the venue capacity was exceeded, creating unsafe conditions, and stressed that the decision to halt the performance was taken once it became clear that fans were at risk.
“We acknowledge the serious safety issues that occurred,” the statement said. “The venue capacity was exceeded, resulting in unsafe conditions that should never have happened. Once it became clear that fans were at risk, the performance was stopped immediately.”
Dagbana Republik added that it is working with the event organisers to address the concerns of affected attendees and to ensure stronger safety measures at future shows, emphasising that fan safety remains non-negotiable.
