Barcelona manager, Hansi Flick, says he is unsure whether Lionel Messi will ever return to the club in a playing capacity.
Speaking during a press briefing on Friday, Flick noted that both his contract with Barcelona and Messi’s contract in the MLS run beyond any immediate possibility of a reunion.
“Messi is the best player of the last ten years, if not more – I’ve always enjoyed watching him play,” Flick said.
“His contract ends in 2028, and my contract ends in 2027, so his coaching doesn’t depend on me.”
Messi, who recently visited the newly redesigned Camp Nou, has long been linked with an emotional return to Barça.
With the Major League Soccer season going on break ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the Argentine superstar could theoretically be available for a short-term European stint, though no concrete plans have been confirmed.
