At least five National Park Service (NPS) officials are feared dead following an attack by suspected bandits on the NPS office in Oloka, Orire Local Government Area, Oyo State. The incident occurred on Tuesday night, security authorities confirmed.
The Oyo State Police Command said the attack is under investigation and that security reinforcements are on their way.
“Yes, there was an attack by yet-to-be-identified men against the men of the national park,” said Ayanlade Olayinka, police spokesperson. “The Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna, along with other security chiefs, is currently en route to the location. Tactical teams, Mobile Police Force officers, and EOD units have been deployed to prevent further breakdown of law and order.”
The bodies of the victims have not yet been recovered, as they are believed to be within the surrounding forest. Authorities continue to search the area and have urged residents to provide any credible information that could assist the operation.
The attack marks a serious escalation of insecurity in Oyo State, highlighting ongoing threats to government facilities and personnel in rural areas.
