Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called for urgent and sustained investment in teachers to address the country’s growing shortage of educators.
In a statement marking World Teachers’ Day 2025, Mrs Tinubu paid tribute to teachers across the nation, describing them as “true heroes” whose dedication shapes the minds and futures of generations.
Reflecting on this year’s global theme, “Focusing on the Global Teacher Shortage,” the First Lady stressed the need for Nigeria to prioritise the teaching profession through empowerment, professional growth, and recruitment of new talent.
“The shortage of teachers is a challenge we must confront with urgency — by empowering educators, investing in their growth, and inspiring more people to join this noble profession,” she said.
Mrs Tinubu underscored that teaching remains one of society’s most honourable and impactful callings, deserving of constant support and recognition.
“Teachers are true heroes — shaping minds, nurturing dreams, and guiding generations,” she said. “As a lifelong teacher myself, I salute all our educators on this special day. Happy World Teachers’ Day 2025.”
