Afrobeats singer Fireboy DML has opened up about his mindset toward music, fame, and success, saying he places more value on his fans’ support than industry rankings or critical acclaim.
Speaking on an episode of the 90s Baby podcast, the Peru hitmaker explained that having a loyal fan base that genuinely connects with his music is all the validation he needs.
According to Fireboy, external recognition such as Top 5 or Top 10 placements does not influence his sense of fulfillment as an artist, as long as his music continues to resonate with listeners who support his work.
“I don’t really care about Top 5 or Top 10, as long as I have fans who rate me,” he said. “I know that I have fans that think I’m the best artiste in the whole world, and that is good enough for me.”
The singer added that this perspective has helped him remain grounded and focused on his craft, rather than being distracted by comparisons, criticism, or industry expectations.
Fireboy noted that prioritising fan connection over rankings has allowed him to enjoy his journey and maintain a healthy relationship with his success.
“I’m a very contented person,” he added, reinforcing his belief that personal fulfillment and genuine support outweigh numerical achievements.
The comments have resonated with fans, many of whom praised the singer for his humility and authenticity in an industry often driven by charts, awards, and public opinion.
