A major fire has broken out at the 22-storey Great Nigeria Insurance House on Martins Street, Lagos Island, authorities have confirmed.
According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the blaze reportedly began in an apartment on the fourth floor before quickly spreading to other parts of the floor and ascending to the sixth floor.
The number of casualties remains unknown as firefighting and rescue operations continue. Emergency response teams on the scene include LASEMA, Lagos State Fire & Rescue Service, the Federal Fire Service, the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), the Nigeria Police Force, Red Cross, and LRU Paramedics.
Six fire trucks and a skylight have been deployed to contain the fire, while the LRU Fire team has been activated to assist with containment and rescue efforts.
LASEMA has assured that recovery and rescue operations are ongoing, and updates will be provided as the situation develops.
