Fiorentina have officially appointed Paolo Vanoli as the club’s new head coach, following the dismissal of Stefano Pioli after a dismal start to the Serie A season. The announcement came on Friday as the Florence-based club seeks to reverse its poor run of form.
Vanoli, aged 53, steps into the role with a wealth of experience, having previously managed Torino, Venezia, and Spartak Moscow. The former Italy international defender had been without a club since parting ways with Torino during the summer, after just one season in charge.
He inherits a struggling Fiorentina side sitting at the bottom of the Serie A table with only four points from ten matches, marking the club’s worst-ever start to a top-flight campaign.
Vanoli’s debut match as Fiorentina manager will come on Sunday, when his team faces Genoa, another side battling early-season woes.
Fiorentina’s decision makes them the third Serie A club this season to opt for a managerial change. Juventus recently replaced Igor Tudor with former Italy and Napoli boss Luciano Spalletti, while Genoa appointed Daniele De Rossi following the exit of Patrick Vieira.
With pressure mounting and supporters eager for a turnaround, Vanoli’s appointment marks a pivotal moment for Fiorentina as they aim to reignite their Serie A campaign and climb out of the relegation zone.
