Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has forwarded three commissioner-nominees to the Adamawa State House of Assembly for confirmation, following the resignation of Adamu Atiku Abubakar, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Abubakar stepped down from his position as Commissioner for Works and Energy Development after declining to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC), unlike some of his colleagues who reportedly aligned with the governor’s political realignment.
The governor has nominated Sali Idris (Maiha Local Government Area), Muhammed Suleiman (Mubi North Local Government Area), and Chubado Mohammed (Jada Local Government Area) to fill the vacant positions.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Bathiya Wesley, has directed the Assembly Clerk to notify the nominees to appear with 40 copies of their curriculum vitae and relevant credentials for screening scheduled for Monday, March 9, 2026.
The vacancy followed the resignation of Abubakar, who was among three commissioners reportedly opposed to changing party affiliation. The other two officials were the Commissioners for Livestock Development and Justice, Tijjani Maksha and Afraimu Jingi.
While Abubakar’s resignation has been confirmed, the latest nomination list has fueled speculation that the remaining two commissioners may have also vacated their offices, although no official confirmation has been made regarding their status.
