Rivers United Technical Adviser, Finidi George, has openly admitted that his team delivered a sub-par performance and “struggled” during their Matchday 17 victory against Wikki Tourists on Monday.
The Pride of Rivers secured a narrow 1-0 victory at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, with Taofeek Otaniyi scoring the only goal of the cagey contest.
Despite claiming the crucial three points, Finidi expressed dissatisfaction with his players’ performance, stating they failed to live up to expectations, especially following a strong previous outing:
“I can’t really see where the game was moving to, it was off and on throughout,” Finidi stated in a post-match interview.
“We are quite happy with the victory but the game proper, we can’t actually see where we controlled the game. After the impressive performance against Plateau United, coming here back home we struggled against Wikki Tourists.”
Finidi’s candid assessment highlights the inconsistency the team displayed, recognizing that the performance level was significantly lower than their recent outings, even though they managed to grind out the win. The focus for the technical crew will now shift to analyzing why the team struggled at home against a Wikki Tourists side currently dealing with its own finishing problems.
