FilmOne Entertainment has celebrated the exceptional box office performance of Funke Akindele’s blockbuster film, Behind The Scenes, following its record-breaking run across Nigeria and select international markets.
As of date, Behind The Scenes has grossed more than ₦2,505,882,930 at the box office, cementing its position as the highest-grossing Nigerian film of all time in West Africa.
The feat surpasses Akindele’s previous record holder, Everybody Loves Jenifa, which concluded its theatrical run in 2024 with ₦1,882,549,548. The latest milestone significantly raises the commercial ceiling for Nollywood’s theatrical releases.
Beyond its domestic success, the film has also recorded impressive results internationally. Screenings in the United Kingdom, United States, and Canada have generated approximately $440,000, making Behind The Scenes the highest-grossing international Nollywood release to date.
Reacting to the achievement, Group CEO of Filmhouse Group — which oversees FilmOne Entertainment, Filmhouse Cinemas, and FilmOne Studios — Kene Okwuosa described the performance as a watershed moment for the industry.
“The performance of Behind The Scenes represents a defining moment for FilmOne Entertainment and for Nollywood’s theatrical business,” Okwuosa said.
“These results reflect what is possible when ambitious storytelling is matched with disciplined, globally aligned distribution. We are proud to be scaling African stories in ways that compete credibly on the world stage.”
Okwuosa further noted that the film marked the first time FilmOne Entertainment handled distribution across both Nigeria and major international markets simultaneously.
“In contrast to last year’s releases, which were distributed domestically only, this unified approach allowed tighter coordination, stronger market visibility, and more consistent commercial execution across regions,” he explained.
As the film’s official global distributor, FilmOne Entertainment led a coordinated rollout that aligned release schedules, cinema partnerships, and diaspora engagement across Nigeria, the UK, Canada, and North America.
According to Okwuosa, this integrated strategy sustained international momentum and firmly positioned Behind The Scenes within cultural conversations beyond Nigeria’s borders.
The film’s historic run has further reinforced Funke Akindele’s status as Nollywood’s most bankable filmmaker and underscored the growing global appetite for Nigerian cinema.
