The Federal Government, through the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation, has formally rolled out the 10,000 Women in Mobility programme, aimed at economically empowering women across Nigeria.
The initiative is designed to provide women in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory access to vehicles, tricycles (commonly called Keke), and motorcycles.
By doing so, it seeks to enable women to participate in transportation, logistics, delivery services, and other mobility-related ventures, boosting both their financial independence and economic participation.
Speaking during the launch and handover of the mobility assets, the Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, emphasized the importance of creating economic spaces for women.
She noted that the Abuja pilot phase had already handed over vehicles to 1,000 women, with the programme set to expand nationwide to reach 10,000 beneficiaries.
She said the initiative helps women build credible financial histories, which can unlock future access to credit.
According to her: “It’s an economic empowerment. It’s how much they drive it and how many hours they put into it. There’s no economic effort that is a chicken feed.
Sulaiman-Ibrahim also applauded CREDICORP Managing Director, Uzoma Nwagba, for championing inclusive access to consumer credit and translating policy into tangible economic opportunities for women.
