The Federal Government has appealed to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to shelve plans for a strike, insisting that it has met all of the union’s demands.
Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, made the appeal on Monday during an interview with newsmen, stressing that there was no justification for another industrial action.
“We have addressed every single request made by ASUU. There is no need for this strike, and we are pleading with them to return to the classrooms,” Alausa said. “We need to keep our children in school. If there is any group I have met with the most since assuming office, it is ASUU.”
He dismissed claims that the government had been slow or unwilling to meet the union’s demands, describing such allegations as inaccurate.
According to the minister, President Bola Tinubu has demonstrated a strong commitment to engaging constructively with labour unions and ensuring fairness in government-labour relations.
Alausa further outlined several steps taken by the Tinubu administration to improve funding and strengthen Nigeria’s tertiary education system, reaffirming the government’s resolve to sustain dialogue rather than disruption in the academic sector.
