The Federal Government has officially declared Thursday, December 25; Friday, December 26; and Thursday, January 1, 2026, as public holidays to mark the Christmas, Boxing Day, and New Year celebrations.
The announcement was made on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Magdalene Ajani.
In a goodwill message to Nigerians, the minister called on citizens to reflect on the enduring values of love, peace, humility, and sacrifice symbolised by the birth of Jesus Christ. He emphasized that the festive season should serve as a reminder of the shared responsibility to promote unity and harmony across the nation.
Tunji-Ojo further urged Nigerians—regardless of faith, ethnicity, or background—to use the holiday period to pray for peace, enhanced security, and sustained national development.
He also advised citizens to remain law-abiding and security-conscious throughout the celebrations, while extending his warm wishes to Nigerians for a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
