The Federal Government has strongly condemned the deadly attack on Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State, which led to the killing of the Vice-Principal, Malam Hassan Makuku, and the abduction of 25 students.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, the government said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has given security and intelligence agencies firm directives to locate and rescue the girls and ensure that those responsible face the full weight of the law.
The government expressed deep sympathy for the families of the abducted students, noting that it shares in their pain and remains fully committed to securing the safe return of the children.
According to Idris, “The government condemns the reprehensible attack on innocent students and the killing of school officials carrying out their noble duty. Our security and intelligence agencies have been issued clear directives to locate, rescue, and safely return the students, and to ensure that the perpetrators face justice. The Federal Government will not relent until this objective is achieved.”
He reaffirmed that the protection of all Nigerians—especially schoolchildren—remains a solemn responsibility of the State, and assured citizens that strengthening internal security is a top national priority.
Idris added that the government is recalibrating Nigeria’s military, policing, and intelligence systems to prevent such attacks and to respond with greater speed and precision whenever threats emerge.
He further noted that Nigeria is deepening collaboration with regional partners through ECOWAS, the African Union, and the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) to secure the nation’s borders and disrupt terrorist and criminal networks. He urged Nigerians to remain calm and confident as efforts intensify.
The attack occurred late Sunday night when armed bandits invaded the school in the Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area.
Witnesses reported that the attackers operated without resistance, causing widespread panic as they killed Makuku and abducted the students, plunging the community into grief and fear.
