Werder Bremen defender Felix Agu has hailed the exceptional talent of his compatriot Victor Boniface, as the prolific striker navigates the final stages of his rehabilitation process. The Nigerian forward has endured a challenging 2025–26 campaign, largely defined by a significant knee injury in January that required surgical intervention and threatened to end his season prematurely.
After an agonizing period away from competitive action, Boniface has successfully transitioned back to the training pitch. The club’s medical staff is currently managing his workload with extreme precision to mitigate any risk of a setback during this delicate reintegration phase. Agu, a consistent performer for the German side this year, noted that the striker’s return has provided a significant psychological boost to the squad.
“I’m very happy to see him back here because I get along well with him,” Agu remarked during a conversation with Deichstube.
While optimistic about the comeback, Agu conceded that regaining match sharpness after such a lengthy hiatus is a gradual process. “I think he still needs a little time to get back into his rhythm,” he admitted. However, the full-back was quick to emphasize that the forward’s fundamental abilities remain untarnished by his time on the sidelines.
“But we all know his quality,” Agu asserted. “He may have only displayed glimpses of it in matches, but you see it repeatedly in training. When he drops deep, turns, and plays passes – with such timing, such vision! That’s simply an absolute quality!”
Recalling the striker’s pedigree, Agu pointed to Boniface’s instrumental role in Bayer Leverkusen’s historic Bundesliga triumph before his subsequent loan move. “He wasn’t a key player in Leverkusen’s championship-winning team for nothing,” he noted, underscoring the high standards the striker has already set in European football.
As the season enters its final stretch, the focus remains on whether Boniface can regain the necessary physical conditioning to impact the club’s fortunes on the field. “If Victor can even come close to that level, then he can help us,” Agu concluded. “The important thing is that he returns to the fitness level necessary to assist us on the field.”
