Motunrayo Kuti, daughter of the late Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, has publicly criticized Nigerian singer Wizkid after he claimed he is bigger than her father.
The remarks, which came as a response to Seun Kuti’s criticism of Wizkid and his father, sparked outrage among Fela’s family members and fans of the Afrobeat legend.
In a video broadcast, Motunrayo addressed the claim directly, berating Wizkid and defending her father’s legacy.
“Wizkid, you said you are bigger than Fela, right? Wizkid, you are also bigger than your useless father, who abandoned you and your mum, who is now late. Since you said you are bigger than our own father, you are also bigger than your father, Muniru Olatunji Balogun. And our father is definitely bigger than your father and mother,” she said.
She also referenced Wizkid’s treatment of his own children and baby mamas, warning that public scrutiny would extend to his legacy as well.
“You that abandoned your baby mamas. Don’t worry, we will all be here when they start to rubbish your own legacy too,” Motunrayo added.
Her comments further inflamed discussions online about respect for musical pioneers, the responsibilities of contemporary artists, and generational perspectives on legacy and influence in the Nigerian music industry.
