Elected officials in the Federal Capital Territory have received their certificates of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), marking the end of the election process.
The certificates were presented at the commission’s office during a formal ceremony attended by electoral officials and stakeholders. The exercise signified the completion of post-election procedures for the area council polls held on February 21.
The FCT Resident Electoral Commissioner, Aminu Idris, described the presentation as an affirmation of the voters’ mandate and commended stakeholders, including security agencies and political parties, for their roles in ensuring a peaceful and credible process. He urged the elected officials to prioritise effective governance and service delivery.
Among those who received certificates were the re-elected Chairperson of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Maikalangu, his vice, Mohammed Nadabo, and other successful candidates across the six area councils and their councillors.
Speaking after the ceremony, Maikalangu expressed appreciation to residents for their support and pledged to focus on development initiatives, particularly in rural communities. He also called for collaboration across political lines to advance progress in the council.
The Vice Chairperson-elect, Mohammed Nadabo, assured residents of inclusive leadership and responsiveness to local needs, promising an administration that would prioritise community-driven development.
