The FBI has launched a nationwide manhunt after the fatal shooting of conservative youth leader Charlie Kirk, releasing photos of a man wanted in connection with the attack.
Kirk, 31, was gunned down on Wednesday while addressing a crowd at Utah Valley University, an event the FBI has called a “targeted attack.” His death stunned supporters and rattled a nation already struggling with deep political divisions just six months into Donald Trump’s second term.
At a press briefing, FBI Special Agent Robert Bohls said the suspect fled into nearby woodland but left behind a high-powered bolt-action rifle believed to be the murder weapon. He added that investigators have clear video of the man and released still images showing him in a black baseball cap, dark sunglasses, jeans, and a long-sleeved shirt marked with an American flag design.
A reward of up to $100,000 is being offered for information leading to his capture.
In a video address, Trump mourned Kirk as a “giant of his generation” and later honored him during his September 11 commemoration speech. Without evidence, he suggested left-wing groups bore responsibility, pledging a strong government response.
Kirk, a co-founder of Turning Point USA, rose to national prominence as a charismatic advocate for conservative causes, credited by allies with shaping youth support that helped propel Trump back to the White House.
His supporters now hail him as a martyr for the movement.
