The family of former Likuyani MP Dr Enock Kibunguchy is calling for a thorough investigation into his sudden death, raising strong concerns about possible foul play.
According to medical reports from Eldoret Hospital, the former MP died after suffering from severe food poisoning, which triggered a series of complications.
However, the family is sceptical of the official explanation, expressing doubts about the circumstances surrounding his illness.
Dr Kibunguchy died at Eldoret Hospital on Tuesday after spending ten days in the ICU.
Led by his brother, Mr Johnstone Walubengo Kibunguchy, the family said the circumstances surrounding his illness were inconsistent and deeply troubling.
In their pursuit of clarity, the family has announced plans to engage an independent private investigation, along with a comprehensive forensic audit, to determine the true sequence of events leading up to his hospitalisation.
A veteran politician and former Member of Parliament, Dr Kibunguchy was widely respected for his contributions to the Lugari constituency. He made headlines when he successfully unseated the late Cyrus Jirongo in 2002, on a Narc ticket.
In 2007, Mr Jirongo reclaimed the seat on a Kaddu ticket. He then went on to become the first MP for Likuyani Constituency, following its subdivision from Lugari on an ODM ticket in 2013.
Beyond his political achievements, Dr Kibunguchy was also a respected medical professional and a key figure in Kakamega County leadership.
His passing comes at a time when the Western region is still grappling with the loss of the late MP Cyrus Jirongo.
