Nigerian rapper and activist Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has called for an urgent public hearing to address the Federal Government’s failure to adequately equip the military despite the massive funds allocated for defence each year.
Reacting to the worsening security crisis across the country in a widely shared video on Monday, the musician described the situation as a “national security emergency” and urged citizens to take coordinated action.
Falz encouraged Nigerians to reach out to their representatives through emails, calls and WhatsApp messages, insisting that elected officials must be pressured to explain why the armed forces remain poorly equipped.
He demanded a fully transparent public hearing, broadcast live on television and accessible online, where authorities would account for defence spending and outline practical strategies for tackling terrorism.
“So many billions being budgeted and released for arms and ammunition, yet what is happening?” he asked. “Why is the military still ill-equipped? Why are convoys still being ambushed? Why was an army general murdered on video?”
The singer called on Nigerians to insist on an emergency session to interrogate allegations of an under-resourced military and to demand concrete solutions for restoring safety across the country.
