Nigerian rapper and human rights activist Folarin Falana, better known as Falz, has expressed deep concern over the growing tribal and religious divisions in the country.
Reacting to a tweet by fellow artist Nasboi, Falz said it has been “depressing” to watch how political leaders continue to exploit tribal and religious sentiments to divide citizens while the real issues go unaddressed.
Nasboi had earlier urged Nigerians to set aside ethnic and religious differences and demand accountability from those in power.
“We’ve really kept quiet in this country,” Nasboi wrote on X. “Stories like ‘snake swallowing money’ show how much these politicians take us for granted. It’s time to put our tribes and religions aside and put this country first.”
In response, Falz echoed the sentiment, stressing the need for Nigerians to start thinking independently rather than allowing politicians to manipulate public emotions.
“I cannot begin to explain how depressing it has been in recent years, seeing tribal and religious sentiments still being used to turn us against each other,” Falz tweeted. “At some point, we need to start thinking for ourselves.”
His comments come amid renewed religious tension on social media, following heated debates between Christian and Muslim youths over US President Donald Trump’s alleged threat to take military action against Nigeria to protect Christians from supposed attacks by Islamic extremists.
Falz, known for using his music and platform to advocate for social justice and accountability, once again called for unity, saying Nigerians must refuse to be divided while their leaders continue to enrich themselves at the nation’s expense.
