The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced plans to achieve full International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) certification for all Nigerian airports by December 2025 — a major milestone aimed at enhancing service quality, safety, and environmental management across the nation’s aviation facilities.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire.
According to Agbebire, the new initiative integrates two globally recognised standards — ISO 9001:2015 (Quality Management System, QMS) and ISO 14001:2015 (Environmental Management System, EMS) — into a unified operational framework designed to elevate efficiency and align Nigeria’s airports with international best practices.
“FAAN has achieved about 70 per cent completion of the certification process,” Agbebire revealed.
“External auditors are scheduled to arrive in November to assess compliance levels and help close identified gaps. We are fully on track to secure complete ISO certification by December 2025.”
He added that the ISO policy reinforces a key operational principle: “If it is not documented, it is considered not done.”
Agbebire noted that the certification process underscores FAAN’s commitment to institutionalising global standards in airport operations, passenger experience, and environmental sustainability.
The ongoing ISO certification effort reflects FAAN’s broader reform strategy under its current leadership — focusing on transparency, accountability, and improved customer service within Nigeria’s aviation ecosystem.
Industry experts say that once completed, the dual ISO certification will not only strengthen operational efficiency but also position Nigeria’s airports among the most compliant and competitive in Africa.
