Family in Kisii county is in mourning after the Russia–Ukraine war claimed the life of another Kenyan. Dennis Bagaka Ombwori, 39, a former Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldier, was killed while fighting for Russia in Ukraine.
His relatives are now appealing for government assistance to repatriate his body, as concerns grow over an unknown number of Kenyans reportedly drawn into the conflict thousands of kilometres from home.
Ukrainian authorities claim that more than 1,400 Africans from 36 countries are currently fighting on Russia’s side in Ukraine. Kyiv alleges that many are recruited through false promises, only to be deployed directly to the front lines.
