A former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Moses Adeyemo, has been elected Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, emerging by consensus at the party’s state congress held at Liberty Stadium, Ibadan.
Adeyemo’s emergence was formally announced during the congress, following extensive consultations among party leaders across the 33 local government areas of the state. The decision, according to a statement issued by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, reflects a unified agreement among key stakeholders.
A native of Igboho in Oorelope Local Government Area, Adeyemo served as deputy governor under the late former governor, Abiola Ajimobi, from 2011 to 2019. His election marks a significant return to frontline party leadership within the state.
Providing further details, former National Youth Leader and Secretary of the party’s Ad Hoc National Zoning Committee, Hon. Azeez Repete, confirmed that the congress was conducted peacefully under the supervision of a congress committee constituted by the party’s national leadership in Abuja. He stated that Adeyemo emerged through consensus.
Repete also disclosed that an ad hoc zoning committee, chaired by Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle with Repete as secretary, was established to allocate positions within the State Executive Committee among the local government chapters. Other members include Idris Adeoye, Adesoji Adedeji, Ajiboye Sangogade, and Akeem Olatunji.
The APC national leadership had scheduled March 3 for state congresses nationwide as part of activities leading to the party’s National Convention slated for March 27 and 28.
The state congress follows the successful conduct of ward congresses on February 28 and earlier local government congresses, which included the election of three delegates per local government for the National Convention.
According to the adjusted 2026 timetable signed by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu, appeals arising from the congresses will be heard on March 4.
The purchase and submission of forms for the Zonal Congresses and National Convention are scheduled for March 13 to 16, while screening committees and appeal panels for the zonal congresses and National Convention will be inaugurated on March 23.
Adeyemo’s emergence signals a new phase in the party’s internal restructuring in Oyo State as preparations intensify for the upcoming National Convention.
