Veteran Nollywood actress and evangelist, Eucharia Anunobi, has announced plans to take legal action against Psalm Okpe, founder of Fresh Oil Ministry International Church, over allegations that they were romantically involved for more than five years.
The controversy erupted following the circulation of a leaked audio recording in which Okpe was heard in a conversation with another cleric, identified as Martins. In the recording, both men made explicit claims about alleged past sexual relationships involving Anunobi and a church leader, Chikere Nwafor.
The audio also contained unverified allegations of homosexuality against another male pastor, a development that sparked widespread backlash and condemnation online.
Okpe, who had previously ordained Anunobi into ministry, later issued a public apology, describing the recording as “disturbing” and admitting that he was embarrassed by the vulgar language used.
Reacting to the apology, Anunobi strongly criticised the cleric, branding him a “monumental global shame” and rejecting the claims as entirely false.
In a lengthy Instagram post, the 60-year-old preacher said the allegations had subjected her to emotional distress and damaged her reputation. She insisted that she has remained celibate since her ordination into ministry nearly 14 years ago, despite being involved in courtships during that period.
Anunobi stated that while she had been engaged and in relationships over the years, none involved sexual relations, a stance she said underpins her public teachings on righteousness.
She further disclosed that she has initiated legal proceedings against Okpe and has instructed her lawyers to file formal petitions with both Nigerian and United States authorities. According to her, the action is aimed at addressing defamation and what she described as long-standing threats to undermine her ministry.
Anunobi said she is determined to pursue the matter legally, insisting that the allegations must be proven in court rather than dismissed or ignored.
The case has continued to generate intense public debate, highlighting ongoing concerns around accountability, ethics, and personal conduct within religious institutions.
