Veteran Nollywood actress Eucharia Anunobi has opened up about the intense criticism she received after portraying a controversial character in the 1994 film Glamour Girls 2.
Speaking during an appearance on The Honest Bunch Podcast, the actress revealed that many viewers struggled to separate her real personality from the role she played in the movie.
In the film, Anunobi portrayed Anita, a bold and promiscuous escort who becomes involved with a wealthy married man. According to the actress, the portrayal triggered widespread reactions from the public at the time.
She said some viewers began labeling her based on the character, calling her names such as a seductress and “husband snatcher.” Others even warned their partners to stay away from her.
Anunobi noted that the situation often led to awkward encounters in public, particularly when couples saw her together.
“I faced a lot of backlash for my role in Glamour Girls 2. At that time, many Nigerians pretended they didn’t watch such movies, yet they judged me for the role,” she said.
The actress explained that some people gave her unusual nicknames inspired by the character, including comparisons to Hollywood actress Sharon Stone and the mythical “Mammy Water.”
According to Anunobi, the reaction became so intense that women would sometimes hold tightly to their partners whenever they encountered her in public spaces.
Despite the criticism, she stressed that she was only interpreting a script as an actress and did not expect the level of personal judgment that followed the role.
Her comments highlight the challenges actors sometimes face when audiences blur the line between fictional characters and real-life personalities.
